New ferry from Portsmouth to Spain
Following P & O Ferries announcement earlier this month to remove Portsmouth to Bilbao route from their schedule, their rival Brittany Ferries has introduced the route to their service. The ferry will run twice a week using the luxurious Cap Finistère, which has been sailing between Portsmouth and Santander.
Brittany’s Group Passenger director, Mike Bevens explained, “Despite the Portsmouth-Bilbao route being dropped this month by a competitor, we are confident of making it a success because, with Cap Finistère, we have the right ship for the job.” He continued “Our services between Portsmouth and Spain have performed extremely well this year so we are building on this achievement.”
With airline passengers to Spain falling this year and car hire increasing in price, Mr Bevens is hoping families will see the luxury ship as an alternative transport to holidays in Spain . The ferry will start next spring and depart every Sunday and Friday from Portsmouth and return Tuesday and Saturday.
Brittany Ferries currently runs 5 routes to France and 3 to Spain, plus a wide range of ferry-inclusive self-drive holidays. The new schedule will increase Brittany Ferries’ will capacity to carry 800,000 passengers to Spain and 8.3 million to France.
